Supporting Workforce Well-being

As a clinician-led organization, health and well-being are at the core of Pediatrix® Medical Group. That is why, in addition to our robust health and wellness benefits and Employee Assistance Program, we have a dedicated Office of Well-being focused on supporting our workforce as they care for our patients and families.

Practicing medicine is stressful, and supporting our workforce is a top priority. The Pediatrix Office of Well-being seeks to embed well-being as a core value across the enterprise to the benefit of our employees, patients, partners and stakeholders. With the support of a steering committee of colleagues from across the organization, the Office of Well-being provides education and resources through instructor-led classes, webinars, podcasts and toolkits aimed at improving well-being and helping build resilience. To help navigate our resources, team members are there to listen, consult and guide individuals and teams on a path to action and healing. The team also offers “well-being moments,” where employees come together monthly to discuss hot topics and offer one another support.

As we mark National Suicide Prevention Month and National Physician Suicide Awareness Day, we acknowledge how important this work is for our clinical workforce in particular. According to the American Medical Association, physicians are at a higher risk of suicide and suicidal ideation than the general population, and physicians who experience suicidal ideation have been shown to be less likely to seek the help they need.

The Office of Well-being addresses the unique needs of clinicians in the areas of efficiency of practice, organizational culture and personal resilience; measuring and reporting upon professional well-being as a key performance indicator across the enterprise; and promoting the development of clinical leaders with behaviors and competencies that support individual and team attainment of professional fulfillment and wellness. It also facilitates peer learning and sharing so clinicians can explore what has worked for colleagues and how they might adapt similar practices in their own clinical environments.

At Pediatrix, we are working hard to build a culture of wellness. Every employee plays a critical role in fulfilling our mission to Take great care of the patient, every day and in every way TM. To accomplish that, we must first take great care of ourselves.
