Nicole Brenson: Committed to Supporting Clinicians

Every day, Mednax clinicians take care of thousands of patients. They put years of training to work improving outcomes and enhancing patient experiences. Clinicians’ success depends on the support of practice managers, billing specialists, legal counsel, IT technicians and many other critical roles. One of the many impactful departments at Mednax is the Clinical Services Division (CSD). The CSD is responsible for developing and sustaining programs that demonstrate value to our clinicians, referring physicians, operations, health system partners and patients. Nicole Brenson, M.S.Ed., a member of the Clinical Services Division, has been instrumental in the successful launch and management of many of the current programs.

We recently sat down with Nicole to find out why she’s passionate about doing everything she can to support clinicians.

How it began

Nicole received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2011, followed by a Master of Science in mental health counseling in 2016 from the University of Miami. She is a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ). Nicole is also a Six Sigma Black Belt Professional.

Nicole began her Mednax journey in 2017 as the operations manager for the Clinical Services Division and now serves as the director of operations. In her role she works with numerous people across the organization to kickstart new projects, coordinate continuing education opportunities and support our clinicians in continuous quality improvement and safety initiatives within the Mednax Center for Research, Education, Quality and Safety (CREQS). She has also played a vital role in executing national meetings such as Mednax’s annual Medical Directors Meeting and NEO: The Conference for Neonatology.

A commitment to supporting clinicians

What Nicole loves most about working at Mednax is the opportunity to support and collaborate with clinicians across the country. “One day, when I was leaving the office, Dr. Reese Clark stopped me and said, ‘You saved a patient today! All the work you did today will help a clinician focus on the care of their patients.’ It was an influential moment. I am so grateful to work for an organization that supports not only its clinicians but also the people who work behind the scenes to help them.”

Nicole is inspired by clinician leaders across the company such as Dr. Reese Clark, Dr. Curt Pickert, Dr. Ingrid Vasiliu-Feltes, Dr. Jorge Del Toro and Dr. David Kanter. “Their commitment to this organization is contagious to everyone they meet.”

Nicole and her team lead the charge in the planning and execution of several rich and diverse continuing medical and nursing education programs. Most notably, she has helped implement Neonatology Grand Rounds, an online continuing education opportunity for clinicians across the country. “I am extremely proud to have been a part of the team that put this series together. We have gotten a lot of great feedback from the clinicians who attended, so I’m excited to see where it will go next!” Currently, the 2021 Neonatology Grand Rounds series is already underway with a lineup of notable topics and speakers.
